Avakov resigns as Ukraine's interior minister

Arsen Avakov has resigned from the post of Ukraine's interior minister, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry has reported on Telegram.

"According to Part 1 of Article 18 of the Law of Ukraine 'On the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine,' I have resigned from the post of interior minister," Avakov wrote.

He thanked the Interior Ministry team for the years of joint work.

Avakov became Ukraine's acting interior minister on February 22, 2014, after Vitaliy Zakharchenko was dismissed from the post.

Since February 27, 2014, Avakov has served as Ukraine's interior minister in the governments led by Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Volodymyr Groysman, Oleksiy Honcharuk and Denys Shmyhal.
