Danilov: 630,000 Russian passports issued to CADLR residents

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov says 630,000 Russian passports have been issued to residents of the occupied areas of Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

"Some 630,000 Russian passports have been issued in the territory of Luhansk and Donetsk regions," Danilov said in an interview with Channel 24 on July 6.

According to the official, the Ukrainian authorities cannot influence this process.

"They want us to hold elections, but a citizen of which country one will be considered when going to elections according to Ukrainian laws?" Danilov said.

In his opinion, one of the reasons for issuing passports by the Russian authorities is the desire to get additional 500,000 votes in elections to the State Duma this fall.

As Ukrinform reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Minsk agreements did not provide for the issuance of passports of the Russian Federation to residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
