President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky calls the bill on de-oligarchization the basis for other legislative initiatives to fight corruption and monopoly.

He said this in his speech at the All-Ukrainian Forum "Ukraine 30. Economy without Oligarchs" on Tuesday, June 15, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I personally, like our entire society, look forward to quick and clear legislative initiatives that should introduce effective antitrust tools to overcome this oligarchic system," Zelensky said.

The president said he had "taken the first step" by submitting a bill on de-oligarchization to the parliament. In his opinion, this draft law is important in order to dismantle "the decisive influence of the oligarchs on life, our politics, and the future of the Ukrainian state."

Zelensky emphasized that this bill is the beginning and foundation of further legal framework for combating corruption and monopoly.

As reported, on June 2, President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted a bill on de-oligarchization to the Verkhovna Rada. The document provides for the establishment of signs by which a person can be recognized as an oligarch, and the creation of a register of oligarchs. Significant influence on the media outlets is among the signs of an oligarch.

On June 4, Zelensky said that in case of attempts to reach an agreement with MPs on the failure of the bill on de-oligarchization, he will put the issue of the status of oligarchs to an all-Ukrainian referendum.
