Markarova, U.S. congressmen discuss opposition to Nord Stream 2
The Embassy of Ukraine in the United States reported this on Facebook.
“The parties discussed the progress of key issues of the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States, in particular, the strengthening of Ukrainian-American defense cooperation and security assistance to Ukraine; the process of reforms in Ukraine, important both for improving the rule of law, accelerating development, and Euro-Atlantic integration,” the report reads.
Special attention was paid to the issue of countering the construction of Nord Stream 2 and hybrid attacks by Russia.
Markarova stressed the importance of sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation, given the risks that the Russian gas pipeline poses both to Ukraine and to the energy stability and security of Europe and the Black Sea region.
For their part, the congressmen emphasized the preservation of bipartisan support for Ukraine. In addition, they reaffirmed their readiness to continue working together to counter the aggression of the Russian Federation, as well as to promote the economic and social development of Ukraine to improve the well-being of its citizens.
As Ukrinform reported, on May 26, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and U.S. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick discussed the latest developments around the construction of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. "Pleased to hear that the long-standing bipartisan and bicameral support of Ukraine in the U.S. Congress remains unwavering," Kuleba wrote on Twitter.
