Ukrinform
The European Union has called on Ukraine to speed up the ratification of the Istanbul Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence

EU Ambassador Matti Maasikas said this in a statement posted on the Twitter account of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

Maasikas noted that Ukraine is among the countries that have made remarkable progress on gender equality and domestic violence legislation in the recent years.

“The EU greatly welcomes this progress and reiterates its call to go to the essential step and expedite the ratification of the Istanbul Convention,” he stressed.

He added that the EU remains at Ukrainian women’s side to support them with dedicated projects also during the current COVID-19 crisis.

As Ukrinform reported, in April, Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova signed the official position of the Prosecutor General’s Office on the absence of any obstacles in Ukraine to the launch of the ratification procedure of the Istanbul Convention.
