Deputy Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office Ihor Zhovkva and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Jonatan Vseviov have discussed the security situation in eastern Ukraine.

The president’s press service informed this following the meeting of the officials, Ukrinform reports.

“The key topic of the meeting was the security situation in Donbas, including the recent increase in ceasefire violations, the growing number of dead and wounded Ukrainian servicemen, and Russia's build-up of the military contingent along the Ukrainian-Russian border,” reads the report.

Zhovkva thanked Tallinn for its strong support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, especially in the context of Estonia's non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2020-2021. He also noted the joint visit of the foreign ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to Kyiv in April this year as an important gesture of solidarity with Ukraine.

In turn, Vseviov stressed the continued firm support of Estonia for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state. He stressed that the Republic of Estonia would never recognize the illegal occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Vseviov also assured that the Estonian side is ready to participate in the Crimean Platform initiative, the inaugural summit of which will take place in Ukraine on August 23, 2021.

The parties paid special attention to the cooperation of the two states in the implementation of Ukraine's strategic course towards integration into the European Union.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors coordinated high-level bilateral dialogue activities for the near future.
