Foreign ministers of Ukraine and Switzerland discuss priorities of cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland Ignazio Cassis agreed to hold political consultations.

According to Ukrinform, referring to the press service of the Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, this was discussed during the first telephone conversation between the officials.

As noted, the officials discussed the priorities of cooperation and the schedule of political contacts between the two countries in 2021. Cassis accepted Kuleba's invitation to visit Ukraine in the second half of this year. The parties also agreed to hold political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland in the near future.

Kuleba thanked for the firm and unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, provision of practical assistance in overcoming the consequences of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

The minister also outlined the tasks of the Crimean Platform as an international format for consolidating efforts to de-occupy Crimea, reaffirmed the invitation to the Swiss leadership to participate in the inaugural summit of the Platform and the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.

A separate topic of conversation was the preparation of the 5th Ukraine Reform Conference which will be held in Switzerland in 2022. Kuleba and Cassis agreed that one of the conference's priorities should be economic recovery in the wake of the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Furthermore, the parties noted the successful development of Ukraine–Switzerland cooperation in the field of scientific diplomacy, in particular, the joint production of lung ventilators on the basis of SE "Novator", which is currently undergoing trials.

As a reminder, Switzerland is one of the five major investors in the Ukrainian economy. As of September 2020, the volume of Swiss investments in Ukraine totaled $3.099 billion.
