Zelensky: We unite the world within Crimean Platform to return Ukrainian to Ukraine
President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote about this on Twitter on the occasion of the anniversary of the so-called "referendum" in Crimea, Ukrinform reports.
"Seven years ago, Russia held a fake referendum in Crimea. For the first time since the beginning of occupation, Ukraine has prepared a strategy for de-occupation and reintegration of the peninsula. We unite the world within the Crimean platform to return Ukrainian to Ukraine," the president noted.
On March 16, 2014, contrary to Ukrainian legislation and the legislation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, a so-called "referendum" on the status of Crimea was held in the Russian-occupied Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. According to the official data of the aggressor state, 96.77% of Crimean residents allegedly supported the annexation of the peninsula to Russia, while 95.6% of Sevastopol residents "voted" in favor of joining Russia.
Two days later, on March 18, 2014, the so-called agreement on the accession of the Republic of Crimea to the Russian Federation was signed at the Kremlin.
Most UN member states and other international organizations declared the Crimean referendum falsified by the occupiers illegitimate.
As reported, the Crimean Platform is a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to improve the efficiency of the international response to the occupation of Crimea, respond to growing security challenges, step up international pressure on Russia, prevent further human rights violations, protect victims of the occupying power and to achieve the de-occupation of Crimea and its return to Ukraine.
The Crimean Platform is to be launched officially at an inaugural summit in Kyiv on August 23, 2021.
