President approves regulations on Congress of Local and Regional Authorities

"According to the document, the Congress is an advisory body, which main tasks include promoting the effective completion of local government reform and effective cooperation of state bodies, as well as monitoring socio-political and socio-economic processes in the country at the regional and local levels,” reads the report.

The Congress will participate in the development of state regional policy. In addition, it should study and summarize international experience in the field of territorial development, considering the standards of the European Charter of Local Self-Government, as well as organize work on forming a Ukrainian delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.

"The tasks of the Congress are also to study the implementation at the local and regional levels of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, develop proposals to improve the implementation of this Agreement and implement European standards in local government," reads the report.

The Congress consists of the Chairman, the Presidium, the Chamber of Regions and the Chamber of Local Authorities. The Chairman of the Congress is the President of Ukraine, who carries out the general management of its activities, determines the order of work and chairs the meetings of the Congress.

The Congress consists of, inter alia, heads the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers, heads of the President's Office, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, ministers, representatives of regional and district state administrations and local governments, members of the Ukrainian delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe and others.
