Shmyhal not ruling out changes to priority groups for COVID-19 vaccination

Ukrinform
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said he does not rule out changes to the stages of COVID-19 vaccination program in terms of determining priority groups to receive the vaccine.

“Will there be changes to the stages of vaccination, that is, the list of people who fall under the first, second and up to the fifth stage? There will probably be, because there are different proposals," Shmyhal said a press conference dedicated to the results of Government's activities under his chairmanship, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

He noted that the distribution of priority groups by stages of vaccination in Ukraine corresponds to the European one. In addition, there are proposals to prioritize members of the clergy because they contact with many people.

According to Shmyhal, proposals to make changes to priority groups are being discussed with the Ministry of Health.

On February 24, 2021, Ukraine launched a coronavirus vaccination campaign.  Medical workers and military personnel were the first to get their shots of the Covishield vaccine, manufactured in India under the license of Oxford/AstraZeneca.

As of March 4, 9,568 people received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Ukraine, according to the Center for Public Health.
