NSDC orders Foreign Ministry to inform EU, US about sanctions against three TV channels

Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) has instructed the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to inform the competent authorities of the European Union and the United States about sanctions imposed against TV channels 112 Ukraine, NewsOne, and ZIK, the NSDC's press service has reported.

"According to the NSDC decision, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has been instructed to inform the competent authorities of the European Union, the United States and other states about the application of sanctions and to raise the issue of them taking similar restrictive measures," the report reads.

According to the report, the vote on the imposition of sanctions against TV channels 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK was held in writing. Out of 19 NSDC members, 17 supported the decision.

On February 2, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine decided to impose sanctions against some legal entities and individuals for a period of five years.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed decree No. 43/2021 of February 2, 2021 enacting the NSDC decision of February 2, 2021 "On the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)."

Proposals for the application of sanctions have been put forward by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Verkhovna Rada resolution No. 2589-VIII of October 4, 2018) and the Security Service of Ukraine.
