Crimean Platform summit scheduled for Aug 23 - Zhovkva

The Crimean Platform summit is scheduled for August 23 this year with the participation of foreign leaders, Deputy Head of the President's Office Ihor Zhovkva has said in an interview with TSN.ua.

According to the presidential press service, Zhovkva said that coordinated international tools for the deoccupation of the Crimean peninsula should appear after the summit.

"The date for holding the Crimean [Platform] summit has already been clearly set - August 23, 2021. The President's Office works together with the Foreign Ministry to prepare respective invitations to foreign leaders, a respective concept, the summit's program, organizational issues," Zhovkva said.

He noted that concrete decisions on the deoccupation of the peninsula should be made at the Crimean Platform summit.

"We are not holding a summit for the sake of a summit. We do not need to hold a summit and again forget about this subject. Therefore, after the summit, there should obviously be a declaration, and more importantly, a coordinated international toolkit for the deoccupation of Crimea and the protection of the rights of Ukrainians in Crimea," Zhovkva said.

He noted that the summit will be connected with celebrations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.

According to him, President Volodymyr Zelensky, during phone calls with foreign leaders, invites them to take part in these events.

"We hope for a broad international presence in these two days," Zhovkva added.
