Ukraine, Mongolia to hold number of high-level bilateral events

Ukraine and Mongolia will hold a number of high-level bilateral events and intend to establish diplomatic missions in Kyiv and Ulaanbaatar in the near future.

According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry, this was agreed upon during a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Yevhen Yenin and new Ambassador of Mongolia to Ukraine (concurrently) Barkhas Dorj, who presented copies of his credentials.

During the meeting, the two diplomats discussed a wide range of topical issues of Ukrainian-Mongolian interaction in the international arena and steps to enhance cooperation in the political, trade, economic, tourism and educational spheres. Special attention was paid to the prospects for increasing trade volumes and expanding humanitarian exchanges.

“The parties confirmed the mutual desire of their countries to restore interstate dialogue in the near future and hold a number of events, in particular another round of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries, visits by Ukrainian and Mongolian high-level officials, a regular meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission, as well as to promote the establishment of direct contacts between business circles,” the report reads.

Yevhen Yenin and Barkhas Dorj stressed the importance of establishing diplomatic missions in Kyiv and Ulaanbaatar in the near future and agreed to jointly develop a plan of celebrations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Mongolia, which will be marked on January 21, 2022.

In addition, the deputy minister thanked the ambassador for the constructive position of Mongolia during the voting on the draft resolutions of Ukraine at the UN.

According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in 2019, the trade turnover between Ukraine and Mongolia amounted to USD 26.8 million, while the export of goods from Ukraine to Mongolia totaled USD 26.1 million. For nine months of 2020, the Ukrainian-Mongolian trade turnover amounted to USD 18.2 million.
