The United States welcomes Ukraine's progress in the fight against corruption and pledges further support to continue the fight against vested interests.

“On International Anti-Corruption Day, we applaud the progress the people of Ukraine have made to overcome corruption, and pledge US support to continue the fight against vested interests,” the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine posted on Twitter.

The International Anti-Corruption Day is marked annually on December 9. The United Nations Convention against Corruption was signed at a high-level political conference in the Mexican city of Merida on December 9-11, 2003. Ukraine ratified the agreement on October 18, 2006. According to the UN Convention against Corruption and the Criminal Law Convention on Corruption, corruption is the abuse of public power for personal benefit, for the benefit of third parties and groups, and various forms of misappropriation of public funds for private use. One of the forms of corruption is nepotism.
