Sweden at OSCE: Conflict in Ukraine concerns Donbas and Crimea

The conflict in Ukraine remains far from over and the settlement should concern both Donbas and Crimea, Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde has said.

She said this during the 27th OSCE Ministerial Council, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Of all the challenges we face, unresolved conflicts are the most serious. The ceasefire in eastern Ukraine is certainly welcome, but it remains fragile. The conflict in and around Ukraine is still far from over. And it concerns eastern Ukraine and the Crimean Peninsula," said the Swedish foreign minister, who will chair the OSCE in 2021.

Linde also said in her speech that the escalation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the tragic loss of life "demonstrates that any unresolved conflicts are fraught with risks."

"Such tragic events should also serve as a reminder of why the protracted conflicts in Georgia and Moldova also require our close attention and political commitment on our part," she said.

The two-day 27th OSCE Ministerial Council started on Thursday, December 3. It is being held via video conference for the first time in history due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

About 40 foreign ministers of the OSCE participating states are taking part in the main event of the Albanian presidency. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba represents Ukraine at the event.

During the online meeting, the ministers will summarize the organization's activities in 2020 and review the security situation in the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian regions.

Russian aggression against Ukraine is one of the main topics of the meeting.
