Verkhovna Rada to work on improvement of electoral system – Korniyenko

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is planning to address the Central Election Commission so that to work together on the improvement of the Ukrainian electoral system.

Chairman of the Servant of the People political party Oleksandr Korniyenko stated this at a briefing on November 10, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We will work on the improvement of the electoral system. In fact, we have received various feedback from the participants in the process. We will address the Central Election Commission from our committee [on state building, local governance, regional and urban development] regarding those violations, mistakes, various inconsistencies that need to be eliminated in the Electoral Code," Korniyenko said.

As reported, the October 25 local elections were held in Ukraine under the updated Electoral Code.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the VIII convocation approved amendments to the Electoral Code on July 11, 2019. The document envisages the introduction of a proportional electoral system with open party lists in the elections of people's deputies, as well as a change in the electoral system in local elections.
