The head of the Batkivshchyna faction in Ukraine's parliament, Yulia Tymoshenko, has called on the Verkhovna Rada to adopt a resolution on October 20 to protect all vital systems of the country from the negative consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and new biological threats.

She stated this at a briefing in parliament on Monday, October 19, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"We managed to unite the efforts of all factions in parliament, the leadership of the parliament, the Ministry of Health, the concerned committee. We developed a very clear algorithm of actions, how to act in this difficult situation. We, all factions, prepared government resolution No. 4228, which clearly predicts what needs to be done now," Tymoshenko said.

According to her, the Verkhovna Rada committee on health care will hold an emergency meeting on October 20 because "this resolution could be submitted tomorrow to the [session] hall [for the vote]."

Tymoshenko also spoke about the main clauses of the draft resolution.

"First, there's a recommendation to the president to immediately create a national headquarters to counteract such a risk as COVID in all areas of our lives, especially in medicine, and to personally head this headquarters," she said.

In addition, according to her, the draft resolution provides for the introduction of a single hotline in the state for people with signs of COVID-19.

She added that the draft resolution provides for the revision of all protocols for the treatment of coronavirus disease, an immediate inventory of laboratories. "For the next three months, the ambulances must be provided with everything necessary at the expense of the COVID fund," Tymoshenko added.

On October 19, a group of MPs led by Tymoshenko registered draft resolution No. 4228 "On measures to combat the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and protect all vital systems from the negative effects of the pandemic and new biological threats."
