President Zelensky, UK PM Johnson discuss situation in Donbas, coronavirus, trade

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson have discussed cooperation in the fight against coronavirus, situation in Donbas, bilateral trade, and reforms in Ukraine.

The meeting took place within the framework of the state visit of President Zelensky to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

“The President of Ukraine briefed the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on the security situation in Donbas and thanked for UK’s continued support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” the press service of the Head of State informs.

As noted, the parties underscored the importance of joint action in overcoming the most serious challenges facing the world today, namely the coronavirus pandemic consequences and the global climate crisis. Boris Johnson stressed that the United Kingdom considers that every country should receive coronavirus vaccine as soon as it is created. Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Ukraine has the capacities for mass production and awaits the vaccine production.

Furthermore, the President of Ukraine told the British Prime Minister about the projects and reforms being implemented in Ukraine to boost its economy. In particular, Zelensky touched upon about the Great Construction project, the investment nanny initiative providing state protection to investors and assistance with the implementation of their projects in Ukraine, as well as the banking law and the agricultural sector development.

"Ukraine is known as one of the world’s largest suppliers of agricultural products. The United Kingdom will be able to buy high-quality agricultural products at attractive prices in our country," Volodymyr Zelensky said.

In addition, the need to improve trade relations was discussed. The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom noted that increasing bilateral trade is high on the agenda.

Volodymyr Zelensky and Boris Johnson emphasized the importance of strategic partnership and the development of bilateral relations.

The President of Ukraine invited the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to make a visit to Ukraine.

As reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky makes a state visit to the United Kingdom on October 7-8.

On Thursday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson signed the UK-Ukraine Agreement on Political Cooperation, Free Trade, and Strategic Partnership.
