Wikipedia starts using 'Kyiv' instead of 'Kiev' - Kuleba

Ukrinform
The multilingual online encyclopedia Wikipedia has switched to writing the name of the Ukrainian capital in Latin, "Kyiv," rather than "Kiev," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said.

"Ukraine has stormed one of the last fortified bastions of the misspelling of our capital 'Kiev' on the World Wide Web. From now on, Wikipedia writes 'Kyiv,' not 'Kiev'," the diplomat said on his Facebook page.

Kuleba said that the difficulty was that Wikipedia simply used the spelling that was more common in authoritative sources. According to him, the repeated arguments of Ukrainians that this kind of spelling was wrong did not work.

"Constant dropping wears away a stone, and the #KyivNotKiev campaign initiated by the Foreign Ministry 'wears away' the world information space. Finally, 'Kyiv' has become more popular than 'Kiev' in authoritative sources. This is a great result of the long-term efforts of many people," he said.
