Yermak: Main achievement of Berlin talks is continuation of ceasefire regime
Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak said this to Ukrainian journalists after a meeting of political advisers to the leaders of Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia in Berlin on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
He noted that in response to the proposal of the Ukrainian side, all four advisers pledged their unconditional support for the ceasefire regime and the implementation of measures to ensure this.
“I think this is the most important thing that happened today. And this gives us hope that the ceasefire regime, initiated by the President of Ukraine and in force for the last six weeks, will be continued. We very much hope for this and will do everything that depends on Ukraine to make it so. We are doing everything to save the life and health of our fighters and people,” Yermak said.
He added that the parties failed to agree on a date for the next summit of the Normandy Four, although everyone understands its importance.
In general, during the difficult seven-hour negotiations, the delegations considered almost all the points that relate to the agreements reached by the Normandy Four leaders in Paris, namely security, political issues, Red Cross access, and the release of detainees.
It is important that OSCE Ambassadors Heidi Grau and Yaşar Halit Çevik attended the Berlin meeting. “This gives rise to the hope that the connection between the Normandy and Minsk formats will be very strong, reliable and effective," Yermak noted.
He expressed the hope that the next meeting of the advisers will take place in the coming weeks. By that time, assistants and consultants will join the work.
As Ukrinform reported, on September 11, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, as part of the Ukrainian delegation, arrived in Berlin, where negotiations were held between delegations of the countries participating in the Normandy format at the level of political advisers to the leaders of Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia.
The Ukrainian delegation was headed by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories Oleksiy Reznikov.
