First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzheppar and Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Ukraine Hashem Dajani discussed the human rights situation in the occupied Crimea and Russia's attempts to legitimize the temporary occupation of the peninsula and ORDLO.

The diplomats discussed these issues during a meeting on August 31, the Foreign Ministry’s press service reported.

“Emine Dzheppar drew the attention of the Palestinian side to the human rights situation on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea temporary occupied by the Russian Federation, to the ethnic and religious discrimination, as well as to need for garnering international support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and countering attempts of the Russian Federation to legitimize the temporary occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the uncontrolled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions (ORDLO),” the report says.

The parties exchanged views on the latest developments in the Middle East and prospects for the settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

During the meeting, the parties stressed the importance of continuing the practice of holding political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Ukraine and Palestine. The interlocutors agreed to include the issues of economic cooperation into the program of the next round of consultations.

The ambassador noted the growth of trade turnover between Ukraine and Palestine and the interest of the Palestinian side in increasing the volume of supplies of Ukrainian agricultural products to the Palestinian market. In this context, the parties are expected to work together to organize a visit of Palestinian businessmen to Ukraine after normalization of the situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
