The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has passed a resolution on Ukraine's withdrawal from the May 26, 1995 agreement establishing the CIS Council for Cultural Cooperation and the protocol on amendments to the agreement.

The respective decision was made at a government meeting on Wednesday, August 12, according to Ukrinform.

"Due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, actual cooperation with Russia has been terminated, whereas cooperation with other CIS member states is taking place in a bilateral format on the basis of new and/or existing bilateral agreements," the explanatory note reads.

According to the document, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine analyzed the current international agreements within the CIS in terms of their compliance with national interests and sees as inappropriate Ukraine's further participation in the agreement establishing the CIS Council for Cultural Cooperation, which was signed in Minsk on May 26, 1995, and in the protocol on amendments to the agreement establishing the CIS Council for Cultural Cooperation, which was signed in St. Petersburg on October 18, 2011.

According to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry must notify the CIS Executive Committee of Ukraine's withdrawal from these international agreements.
