Ukraine, Moldova agree to resume bilateral consultations

"Certainly, the issues of economic and trade cooperation between our countries were at the core of our conversation today. This is extremely important for the economies of our countries, and I am very glad that we managed to agree to resume meetings and consultations to settle the problematic issues that exist in our relations. Primarily, I mean the well-known package agreement which concerns the Dniester Hydro Power Plant and the Odesa-Reni road," Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said after a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Oleg Ţulea in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Minister Ţulea noted that, in view of both ministers, bilateral trade and economic relations need to be intensified.

"In this regard, I suggested organizing a regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation in Chisinau and further promoting direct dialogue at the level of the Commission’s co-chairs," he said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova added that a common European integration vector remained the basis for bilateral relations. The ministers also discussed security issues, including the settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and the issue of Crimea.

"We reaffirmed our support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. At the same time, I expressed gratitude for Ukraine's support to Moldova in the context of identifying some sustainable solutions in the Transnistrian conflict settlement," Ţulea said.

As reported, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Oleg Ţulea makes a working visit to Ukraine on August 4.
