Switzerland has provided ₣125 M in assistance to Donbas over five years

Over the past five years, Switzerland has allocated CHF125 million to the implementation of projects in Donbas.

“Switzerland is one of the countries that most actively helps Ukrainians in Donbas. Switzerland is among the top ten international donors of Ukraine” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine posted on Facebook.

The Foreign Ministry specified that CHF 125 million had been allocated for projects in Donbas within the framework of the Swiss Cooperation Strategy for Ukraine over the past five years.

It is noted that 24 technical assistance projects are being implemented in Ukraine under the auspices of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland. In particular, the projects promote the development of local governance, improvement of infrastructure, energy efficiency, health care and sustainable economic development.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the main humanitarian projects are drinking water treatment in Donbas and delivery of medicines and medical equipment.

"Thanks to Swiss humanitarian aid, 4 million residents of Donetsk region on both sides of the demarcation line will be provided with drinking water by the end of 2020," the Foreign Ministry emphasizes.

In addition, eleven humanitarian cargoes have been sent to eastern Ukraine east since April 2015. The total value of the 10th and 11th cargoes was CHF 3.3 million.

Additional CHF 700,000 was allocated to overcome coronavirus pandemic in Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reminds that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and President of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga plan to visit the front line in Donbas on July 23.
