The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted the resolution on the appointment of Kyrylo Shevchenko as the Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine.

The resolution was supported by 332 lawmakers, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"To appoint Kyrylo Shevchenko to the position of the Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine," the resolution reads.

President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted the draft resolution on Shevchenko’s appointment to the Verkhovna Rada on the evening of July 15.

On the morning of July 16, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy recommended that the Parliament appoint Shevchenko as the National Bank Governor.

Prior to this appointment, Kyrylo Shevchenko held the position of Chairman of the Board of Ukrgasbank since May 2015. In 2012-2014, he served as an advisor to the governor of Oschadbank.

Shevchenko has been working in the banking sector since 1994.

As reported, on July 1, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Yakiv Smolii filed a letter of resignation to the President due to "systematic political pressure."

On July 3, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dismissed Yakiv Smolii.
