Ukrainian parliament allocates over UAH 1.2 B for elections
A total of 330 lawmakers voted for bill No. 3712 "On the Introduction of Amendments to Annexes No. 3 and No. 6 to the Law of Ukraine on Ukraine's State Budget for 2020 on the Financing of Elections" at a parliament meeting on Monday, July 13, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"The bill will help ensure proper preparations for and the holding of regular and first local elections, as well as by-elections of a people's deputy of Ukraine in single-member constituency No. 208 (the Chernihiv region)," the explanatory note to the document reads.
In particular, the expenditures of the Central Election Commission's general fund were increased by UAH 1,263,954.
Of these funds, UAH 10.841 million was allocated under the budget program "Leadership and management in the field of elections and referendums," UAH 994,000 under the program "Conducting the elections of people's deputies of Ukraine," and UAH 1,252,117 under the program "A subvention from the state budget to local budgets for holding the elections of deputies of local councils and the heads of villages and towns."
The funds for the elections were allocated at the expense of a reduction in the expenditures of the general fund for combating the acute respiratory disease COVID-19 caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and its consequences.
