Parliament rejects Vakarchuk’s resignation

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has rejected the draft resolution on the early termination of powers of the Member of Parliament of Ukraine Svyatoslav Vakarchuk.

The draft was supported by 175 lawmakers, while 226 votes minimum were required, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

On June 11, MP from the Holos Party faction Svyatoslav Vakarchuk stated that he had registered an application at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to resign his seat.

As reported, for the first time Svyatoslav Vakarchuk took part in the early parliamentary elections on September 30, 2007 as a member of the pro-presidential bloc "Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense". He was elected in a multi-member constituency. On November 23, 2007, Vakarchuk became MP. However, on September 11, 2008, he resigned. On December 16, 2008, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution on the early termination of his powers.

On May 16, 2019, Vakarchuk presented his political party "Holos", he headed the party list. In the 2019 parliamentary elections, the Holos Party garnered 5.82% of the vote.

On August 29, 2019, the Holos faction was created in the Parliament, and Serhiy Rakhmanin became its leader.
