The leader of People’s Front Party and former Ukrainian Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, wishes Canada victory in the elections for the non-permanent members of the UN Security Council.

He wrote about this in his post on Facebook on June 17, according to a report on his website.

“I wish our Canadian friends victory! Ukrainians stand for Canada in the UN Security Council,” Yatsenyuk wrote.

“An important election of the new non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for 2021-22 will be held in New York City today. The United Nations Security Council is the body with the primary responsibility for maintaining world peace and security. It is in Ukraine’s interests for our true allies to be elected to the Security Council,” he noted.

“I call upon the leadership of our country to take these elections with all the responsibility and to support Canada, Ukraine’s true friend and partner,” Yatsenyuk stated.

We value all our partners who are competing for the UN Security Council membership. “But I have no doubt that every true friend of Ukraine recognizes the uniqueness of our relations with Canada,” the leader of People’s Front Party stressed.

As a reminder, the UN Security Council is composed of 15 Members: five permanent members: China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and ten non-permanent members elected for two-year terms by the General Assembly (with end of term year).

On June 17, elections for five non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for 2021-2022 will be held. Voting is expected for Canada, Djibouti, India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico and Norway.
