Ukraine has become a full-fledged member of the Group of Friends of Women, Peace and Security, an association of states in the United Nations that protects women in armed conflicts.

"This will enable us, together with our partners, to make efforts to ensure equal and comprehensive participation of women in all processes related to the maintenance of international peace and security," Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Sergiy Kyslytsia said in an exclusive comment to Ukrinform.

According to him, the Ukrainian side will pay special attention to the protection of women who have suffered from Russian aggression.

"These include the development of programs to prevent sexual and other violence, combating human trafficking, monitoring the situation, psychological rehabilitation, and professional development," Kyslytsya said.

The diplomat also noted that the Ukrainian side would actively use the platform to exchange information and experience, convey the national position, advocate and find new ways to strengthen the implementation of the "women's" agenda both at international and national levels.

Ukraine was invited to join the Group of Friends of Women, Peace and Security on Thursday, May 14, and immediately agreed to join the UN-based initiative, Kyslytsya said.

In an official invitation letter, a copy of which is available to Ukrinform, the Group's organizers expressed confidence that Ukraine's contribution would be valuable in strengthening the role of women in maintaining peace and security.
