UNGA resolutions help Ukraine in international lawsuits against Russia - Kyslytsya
"General Assembly resolutions on territorial integrity, human rights in Crimea and the militarization of Crimea have become part of the evidence and system-building framework for international tribunals," he said.
Kyslytsya added that when the war with Russia is over, these issues will remain in the courts for decades.
"When the trials in The Hague are over, trials in Strasbourg, at the ECHR, will continue. And the reference to the decisions of the General Assembly, the reference to the fact that Russia, in the UN's opinion, is the occupying power will be part of the evidence base," he said.
He noted that the decisions of the UN Security Council as part of Chapter VII of the UN Charter (Action with Respect to Threats to the Peace, Breaches of the Peace and Acts of Aggression) are binding.
"And based on these decisions, there are sanction regimes, peacekeeping operations and other things that are needed to keep order in the world. Forgive me for such a primitive comparison, but if the traffic rules are not pleasant to its participants, it does not mean that they can be completely ignored," Kyslytsya said.
