Russia-controlled forces must ensure access for international humanitarian organizations and OSCE monitors to Russia-occupied areas of Ukraine's Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

The U.S. Department of State issued a respective statement following a phone call between U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"The Secretary and the President also stressed the continued importance of access to Russia-controlled areas of Ukraine's Donbas region, where Russia-led forces continue to mount attacks and prevent the work of humanitarian organizations and OSCE monitors," the statement said.

It notes that Pompeo and Zelensky discussed ongoing U.S. assistance to Ukraine during the COVID-19 crisis, including the planned delivery of much-needed medical lab equipment.

In addition, Pompeo thanked Zelensky for Ukraine's support in repatriating U.S. citizens and residents, including more than 200 Peace Corps volunteers.
