The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has not supported the appointment of Serhiy Marchenko as finance minister.

Only 223 MPs voted for his appointment at a special parliament’s meeting on March 30, with at least 226 votes needed to make the decision, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

Serhiy Marchenko served as deputy finance minister in 2016-2018, and as deputy head of the Presidential Administration in 2018-2019. In the snap parliamentary elections on July 21, 2019, he ran seventh on Groysman’s Ukrainian Strategy party’s list.

Marchenko has the Candidate of Economic Sciences degree.
