The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has started formal negotiations on the signing of a bilateral agreement on cooperation, free trade and partnership with the United Kingdom, the ministry has reported on its Twitter account.

"Official talks have begun with the UK delegation on a bilateral agreement on political cooperation, free trade, and partnership. Key issues: strategic partnership and visa dialogue between Ukraine and the United Kingdom," the tweet reads.

The UK left the European Union on the night of January 31 to February 1.

Earlier, UK Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons said in a video message that the United Kingdom will remain a good friend and reliable partner of Ukraine even after the country leaves the EU.

She noted that Britain hopes to deepen and expand cooperation with Ukraine in the coming years. This requires the signing of a new bilateral agreement between Britain and Ukraine on trade and political relations, the work on which is currently underway and should be completed by the end of the year.
