Ukraine insists on Iran's compliance with international law when investigating the crash of a Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) plane, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov has said.

"Ukraine expects the Iranian side to comply strictly with all the international requirements of Article 26 of the Chicago Convention and Annex 13 thereto when investigating the crash of the Ukraine International Airlines Boeing-737-800 aircraft that crashed on January 8, 2020 in the Islamic Republic of Iran," the NSDC's press service quoted Danilov as saying.

According to Danilov, Ukraine once again emphasizes its readiness to cooperate as closely as possible with the Iranian side in investigating the causes of the tragedy and has all the technical and scientific capabilities to do so, including in examining black box flight recorders.

"Today, the commission of inquiry into the causes of the disaster continues to work and is operating in full-time mode. We are in constant contact with our colleagues who stay in Iran. Ukraine's position remains unchanged. We insist on a comprehensive and full investigation into all the circumstances of the disaster and the payment of respective compensation to the families of the deceased in accordance with international law," he said.

Iran said that it will no longer share with Ukraine evidence from an investigation into the crash of a Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) passenger jet shot down near Tehran on January 8 after an audio recording of talks between an air traffic controller and an Iranian aircraft pilot was leaked in the Ukrainian media.

"The technical investigation team of the Ukrainian airline crash, in a strange move, published the secret audio file of the communications of a pilot of a plane that was flying at the same time as the Ukrainian plane," said Hassan Rezaifar, the director in charge of accident investigations at Iran's Civil Aviation Organization.
