Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Riaboshapka has discussed the reform of the Ukrainian prosecutor's office with representatives of the U.S. Department of State´s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, according to the PGO’s press service.

"During the meeting, the parties discussed the results of prosecutors' attestation of the Office of the Prosecutor General, the procedure for appointing prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General, and the further attestation of prosecutors of regional prosecutor's offices," reads the statement.

It notes that during the meeting, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau Jorgan Andrews stated about the U.S. government’s support for the reform of the Ukrainian prosecution agencies, since a real fight against corruption is only possible with the same progressive development of institutions in the state.

As Ukrinform reported, Prosecutor General Ruslan Riaboshapka announced the launch of the reform of prosecuting agencies after the adoption of law No.1032 on September 19.

The reform was launched with the prosecutors' attestation and included the competence assessment of prosecutors and the establishment of the Office of Prosecutor General.

Applications for the competence assessment were filed by 1,083 prosecutors, of whom only 610 (56%) successfully completed three stages of the attestation.

The competence assessment of regional and local prosecutors will begin in 2020. The procedure of re-attestation of prosecutors is expected to be completed until September 1, 2020.
