Minister for Veterans Affairs, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine Oksana Koliada informed the UN of humanitarian problems in Donbas caused by Russian aggression.

As an Ukrinform correspondent reported from New York, the minister delivered a speech at the plenary meeting of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly on Monday, which was dedicated to the coordination of humanitarian aid by the United Nations.

"The armed aggression of the Russian Federation has been going on in my country for 2,075 days. Over this period, more than 13,000 Ukrainian citizens have been killed, including 3,345 civilians and 172 children," the minister said.

Nowadays, only six families live in the village of Pisky, once respectable locality near Donetsk, Koliada noted.

The Ukrainian minister showed photos depicting life in the frontline area and occupied territory. Ten children from the occupied village of Staromaryivka go to school in the Ukrainian-controlled village of Hranitne every day, she said. "Four kilometers along the mined path and half-ruined boardwalk. This happens so regularly that google maps created a corresponding route," Koliada added.

According to Koliada, about 100,000 children live in the frontline area. Since 2014, seven children have been killed and 29 have been injured in landmine blast.

In the territory of occupied Crimea, the minister stressed, the civilians are persecuted and arrested on political, ethnic and religious grounds, Ukrainian schools are closed, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar identities are obliterated, Ukraine's cultural heritage is destroyed.

More than one hundred Ukrainian citizens have been jailed on political motives in Crimea. In 2014 alone, more than 500,000 Russian citizens have been resettled in Crimea, the minister added. "Tough militarization of the peninsula is ongoing," she said.

As reported, on December 9, the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution "Problem of the militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine, as well as parts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov" which contains a provision about the nuclear facilities and material seized by Russia in the occupied territory.
