Ukrainian president, European Commission leader discuss topical issues on EU-Ukraine agenda

The head of state informed the leader of the European Commission about the results of the Normandy Four summit held in Paris on December 9, and stressed the importance of fulfilling the agreements by the Russian Federation.

Ursula von der Leyen commended the efforts made by the Ukrainian side to resume negotiations in the Normandy format and achieve tangible results.

The interlocutors paid special attention to the issue of ensuring uninterrupted gas transit through the gas pipelines of Ukraine and the prospects of concluding a new agreement with the Russian Federation. The parties agreed to continue the relevant work, in particular with the support of the new composition of the European Commission in a trilateral format.

In the context of reaching an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a new Extended Fund Facility, the Ukrainian president and the European Commission leader agreed on the steps required to allocate the second tranche of the EU macro-financial assistance in the amount of EUR 500 million in the near future.

Zelensky also suggested finding ways to sign the EU-Ukraine Common Aviation Area Agreement as soon as possible.

As Ukrinform reported, the Normandy Four summit was held in Paris on December 9. It was attended by the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, France, and Germany.
