EU-Ukraine Association Council to discuss situation in Donbas and Crimea in Jan

During the EU-Ukraine Association Council in January 2020, the parties will take stock of the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and other reform priorities, as well as the situation in eastern Ukraine and in Crimea.

The European External Action Service said this in a press release following a meeting of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Vadym Prystaiko, on the margins of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Bratislava on Thursday.

“The High Representative looked forward to the EU-Ukraine Association Council, at which Prime Minister Honcharuk will represent Ukraine, on 28 January in Brussels. The Association Council will take stock of the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and other reform priorities, as well as the situation in eastern Ukraine and on the Crimean peninsula," the statement says.

The High Representative highlighted that Ukraine has taken welcome steps towards the implementation of the Minsk agreements. He hoped that the forthcoming Normandy format summit would be held in a constructive atmosphere and pave the way towards a sustainable and peaceful resolution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, in full respect of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In addition, the High Representative reaffirmed the EU's unwavering support to Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as continued non-recognition of the illegal annexation of the Crimean peninsula by Russia.

High Representative/Vice-President Borrell and Minister Prystaiko agreed to stay in regular contact in the future.
