Trump: Ukraine and Russia have been fighting too long

Ukrinform
U.S. President Donald Trump has stressed the need to achieve peace between Ukraine and Russia, because, according to him, they have been fighting "too long."

"I think the situation in Ukraine is very important. I think that the meetings coming up with Russia and Ukraine are very important. And there’s a possibility that some very big progress can be made," Trump said in London on December 3, speaking at a joint press conference with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.

He also stressed that "it’s very important for Ukraine. I think it’s very important from the standpoint of Russia, also, that they work out a treaty, they work out peace, because they’ve been fighting a long time. Too long. And I think there’s a really good chance that that will happen."

A Normandy Four summit is to take place in Paris on December 9. The meeting will be attended by the leaders of four countries: Ukraine, Russia, France, and Germany. It will be the first meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin.

A key issue on the agenda is resolving the conflict in Donbas.

The last such meeting at the level of the leaders of the states took place in Berlin on October 19, 2016. Its participants acknowledged that there was no breakthrough in the settlement of the conflict in Donbas.
