U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo welcomes the efforts of the Ukrainian leadership to root out corruption and pledges further support in this direction.

Pompeo said this in an interview with Fox News on Monday, December 2, the transcript of which was released by the U.S. Department of State.

"This is a step forward. There is no doubt about that. He [Zelensky] is working hard," he said.

Pompeo noted that the U.S. would continue to provide assistance to "help ferret out corruption there, to make this a place where the Ukrainian people can be proud of their democracy and the absence of corruption."

At the same time, Pompeo admitted that "there’s an awful lot of work to do." But, according to him, Zelensky has certainly made improvements, steps in the right direction.

“We’re happy about that and we’re going to continue to support his efforts to do that,” the U.S. Secretary of State stressed.
