Zelensky congratulates Trudeau on his victory and hopes that Canada will ease visa rules

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau on Friday evening, the press service of the head of state has reported.

"Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Justin Trudeau on the victory of the Liberal Party in Canada's general election and the formation of a new government," the report says.

The head of state thanked Canada for its consistent stance on maintaining the policy of sanctions against Russia.

Justin Trudeau, for his part, commended the release of Ukrainian sailors and the return of vessels seized by Russia. He also praised the arrangements on holding the Normandy format summit on December 9.

Canada's prime minister welcomed the decisive steps taken by the president of Ukraine in implementing the ambitious reform program and assured that Canada would continue to provide active assistance in this area.

Zelensky expressed hope for gradual liberalization of Canada's visa regime for Ukrainian citizens, which should further strengthen relations between the nations of the two countries.

Zelensky invited Trudeau to pay an official visit to Ukraine.
