EU sees ‘encouraging signals’ in disengagement process in Donbas

Ukrinform
The European Union has called the disengagement process in eastern Ukraine as encouraging signals, according to Maja Kocijancic, EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

The text of the document was made available to Ukrinform.

“The start of the disengagement process in Petrivske, the completed withdrawal of forces and hardware in Zolote, and progress achieved in Stanytsia Luhanska, including the well-advanced repair works on the bridge, are encouraging signals from eastern Ukraine. These steps will certainly ease the suffering of civilians living close to the contact line who bear the brunt of this conflict,” the document reads.

The EU emphasizes that Ukraine has displayed a constructive approach to move forward in the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

“We expect also Russia to proactively take positive steps and to use its considerable influence over the armed formations it backs to meet the Minsk commitments in full,” the EU spokesperson stressed.

The European Union also notes that the OSCE SMM remains a source of reliable information of the situation on the ground. It must have safe, secure, unconditional and unimpeded access to the entire territory of Ukraine, including to ensure proper monitoring of the disengaged areas and their vicinity.

As Ukrinform reported, on November 11, the practical disengagement of personnel, weapons and military equipment was completed in the area of Bohdanivka and Petrivske in Donetsk region.
