Ukraine has already implemented six of seven recommendations of the Venice Commission to amend the law on education for the protection of national minorities.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this during a joint briefing with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“As to the protection of the rights of national minorities, we have assured the Allies that Ukraine is carrying out all the recommendations of the Venice Commission on the Law of Ukraine on Education. Six out of seven recommendations have already been implemented by the Ukrainian side,” Zelensky said.

As reported, relations between Ukraine and Hungary have become more complicated after the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on education. The law at second reading and in whole was approved on September 5, 2017, and came into force on September 28.

According to the document, the use of the state language in school education has been expanded. Hungary expressed concerns about the future of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine.

Budapest blocked a NATO-Ukraine High Commission meeting and stated it is ready to resist Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration until the law is amended.
