The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has agreed to prosecute, detain and arrest MP Yaroslav Dubnevych, a member of the For the Future group.

A total of 332 MPs voted for the decision to prosecute the MP, 241 lawmakers supported the decision to detain him, and 229 MPs voted in favor of the decision to arrest him, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

In his report to people's deputies, Prosecutor General Ruslan Riaboshapka noted that the investigation into the criminal case regarding Dubnevych's possible involvement in the seizure of funds belonging to PJSC Ukrzaliznytsya had been completed.

The defendants in the criminal proceedings are eight people, including MP Dubnevych, who are now familiarizing themselves with the case materials. The case will then be brought to court.

"This proceeding has been investigated for almost three years. The investigation is over. There is enough evidence to bring [MP Dubnevych] to account," he said.

According to the prosecutor general, Dubnevych, as chairman of the parliamentary committee on transport, "constantly studied and analyzed the financial condition of Ukrzaliznytsia, and also informed Ukrzaliznytsia officials about the need to carry out respective procurement and works."

As a result, products were purchased at inflated prices from an enterprise owned by Dubnevych himself.

The Verkhovna Rada committee on the rules of procedure, deputy ethics and organization of the parliament's work on October 30 recognized as legal motions submitted by Riaboshapka regarding the prosecution, detention and arrest of Dubnevych.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, sufficient evidence was gathered in the course of the pretrial investigation to serve Dubnevych with a notice of suspicion in committing criminal offenses under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misappropriation, embezzlement of property or misappropriation of property through abuse of office). According to investigators, these actions caused losses of UAH 93.277 million.
