Ukraine has made its choice and plans to become a member of NATO.

“Ukraine has made its choice. It is NATO membership. The Alliance also made its choice in 2008 when it decided at the Bucharest summit that Ukraine would become a member of NATO. We assume that this decision will be fulfilled. The Government I represent is the first government which clearly defined in its action plan the goal to meet the requirements for membership in the Alliance in five years,” Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Dmytro Kuleba said at a joint briefing with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Odesa.

Ukraine has to make this way step by step together with NATO colleagues, using all the available tools, the official stressed.

Different opinion polls in Ukraine, the Vice Prime Minister added, show the same trend of gradually increasing support for Euro-Atlantic integration.

"I am convinced this is not just a natural reaction of the Ukrainians to Russian aggression but a conscious decision," he summed up.

As reported, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg makes an official visit to Odesa today. He visited the seaport, where four NATO minesweepers arrived on October 29.
