All members of parliament's finance committee should take lie detector test – Zelensky

Ukrinform
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he insists that all members of the Verkhovna Rada committee on finance, tax and customs policy take a lie detector test.

The head of state wrote this on his Facebook page.

"I believe that all members of the committee on finance, tax and customs policy should take a lie detector test. If this check reveals at least the slightest likelihood of any of the deputies taking money for the vote at a committee meeting, then anti-corruption bodies should deal with these deputies," Zelensky said.

He insists that a "fair and impartial investigation" should remove all questions and provide answers, no matter how bitter they were.

"I also deem it necessary to do the same with a deputy who conducted dubious correspondence on the 'resolution of issues.' And if the suspicions are justified, we will say goodbye to such deputies," Zelensky said.

The president said he was convinced that the mechanism of passing a lie detector test is simple and transparent, and therefore much better than settling disputes through social networks and telegram channels.

"Many people probably think that the president's foreign visit to a distant country is a convenient opportunity to discredit the Servant of the People faction and to sow discord and divisiveness that our external and internal enemies will like very much. I want to say to these people: 'If you really think so, then you are deeply mistaken.' I am aware of all the events, keep my finger on the pulse. No statement, no information operation is passing me by. I will not allow anyone from within or outside the faction to cast a shadow on the political party that has received a mandate of the majority from the people of Ukraine," Zelensky added.

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office opened a criminal case on the possible receipt of a $30,000 bribe by current MPs for voting at a meeting of the parliament's committee on finance, tax and customs policy against the bill on the removal of corruption schemes during the evaluation of real estate facilities.

Servant of the People MP Oleksandr Dubinsky said that after communicating with the party leadership, he had learned that the Office of the President insisted that all Servant of the People deputies, who are members of the committee on finance, tax and customs policy, take a lie detector test.

On October 19, the chairman of the committee on finance, tax and customs policy, Danylo Hetmantsev, said that committee members had failed to support bill No. 2047-d on the removal of corruption schemes in the sphere of real estate assessment by digitizing the calculation of the tax value of real estate. All members of the Holos party and only five deputies from the Servant of the People voted for the document.
