“We talked about settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine which is still top priority for us. It would have a positive impact on the whole region,” Maas told journalists after the meeting, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
According to him, the "Steinmeier formula" should practically lead the Minsk process out of a deadlock and get it going.
Maas added that Germany, along with France, had been very active lately in preparing a high-level summit in the Normandy format. He expressed a conviction that the tangible steps on political front should be followed by steps that would have a positive impact on the population in Donbas.
German Foreign Minister stated that it was necessary to "make both parties" comply with the ceasefire arrangements and fulfill their obligations.
"It is very important to emphasize that we need to support this country [Ukraine] in a very difficult situation despite the problems we face inside our countries and in the international dimension," Linkevičius said.
