Foreign Minister of Ukraine Vadym Prystaiko and Foreign Minister of Japan Toshimitsu Motegi met in Tokyo and discussed support for Ukraine and the situation in Donbas.

“On October 21, at 12:30 (Tokyo time), Foreign Minister of Japan Toshimitsu Motegi met with Foreign Minister of Ukraine Vadym Prystaiko who is on a working visit to Japan. The meeting lasted about 20 minutes,” the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine reports.

During the meeting, Minister Motegi emphasized Japan's unwavering stance on support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as "non-recognition of any changes through the use of force."

Japan is a constant partner of Ukraine which shares fundamental values and will continue to cooperate with the new government of Ukraine and further support Ukrainian reforms, the Japanese minister added.

In turn, the Ukrainian foreign minister thanked for Japan’s support and confirmed his intention to strengthen cooperation with Japan in various directions – security, economy, culture, education and science, tourism and others.

The ministers also discussed the situation in Donbas.

“The ministers exchanged views on the current situation in Ukraine. Minister Motegi expressed his hope that ceasefire and disengagement of troops in eastern Ukraine would be implemented. In this regard, Minister Prystaiko informed that President of Ukraine Zelensky was working to resolve this issue as peacefully as possible and that the next meeting in the Normandy format was planned to be held which could facilitate the settlement of the conflict,” the Embassy noted.

As reported, on Monday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukrainian delegation arrived in Japan on a working visit.
