Germany will not recognize Russian passports issued to Donbas residents – ambassador

Ukrinform
The German Federal Foreign Office has ordered all German consulates not to recognize Russian passports issued to Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas.

Ukraine's Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk informed this on his Twitter account on Wednesday, October 9.

"The betrayal is canceled. The leadership of the Federal Foreign Office informed me about the instructions issued to all German consulates NOT TO RECOGNIZE Russian passports issued to Ukrainians in the occupied Donbas," he said.

As Ukrinform reported, on September 24, German tabloid newspaper Bild published a report stating that Germany allegedly affixes visas into "passports" issued by Russia to residents of the temporarily occupied areas of Ukraine's Donetsk and Luhansk regions, without making a distinction between Russian passports and these "documents".

According to the article, almost 100,000 visas have been issued by the German authorities to holders of Russian passports since April. However, it is unclear how many visas were affixed into Russian passports issued to residents of the occupied Donbas.

At the same time, the Federal Foreign Office denied this information.
