Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Riaboshapka has said that he will not organize the persecution of political opponents.

He said this during the Right to Power program on the 1+1 television channel on Thursday, Ukrinform reports.

In particular, when asked if he intended to imprison former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Riaboshapka said: "We are not going to organize persecution on party grounds. This will not be the case."

Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation is investigating 13 criminal cases involving Poroshenko. Most of them were opened at the request of Andriy Portnov, a former deputy head of the Presidential Administration under President Viktor Yanukovych.
